It is truly fabulous when getting to witness the joy of first con goers. Years back, our house was a place many came to learn the ways of dungeon and dragons, magic cards, and role playing with style. Role playing really helped those young children grow up to be wonderful adults. But today I was proud to witness a great event. One of those kids, who came to the house, learned and played, has grown up to be a wife and mother now. She has her own house and came to her first GENCON this year. While doing video work for Dwarven Tavern she recognized the Dwarven Tavern shirt and me.
Greetings and joy! I had the pleasure of walking with her and her husband to the exhibitor’s hall and to find the rest of the Dwarven Tavern crew. We talked about her experiences. It was awesome. She had been to the exhibitor’s hall and purchased a corset. Her husband had also done some shopping. They were having a blast. I toured them around and we talked about the vendors and their wares.
For her it was a bucket list item. She had heard about GENCON for years. Then she was able to see it and what the Dwarven Tavern Press does while there. It was a dream come true. But it was more of a dream for me coming true. One of the many kids at hour house had grown up and still loves the gaming world. What makes it even more special? Next year, her and her husband are bringing their son to experience the “Training Arena”. The area where kids get to hear stories and asked if they know what a hippogriff is? The next generation of kids will know how to read, do math, and role play with the best of them. All because we taught their parents when they were young.
