Business of playing D&D.
The Dungeon and Dragons 5th edition is out. Currently the top seller on Amazon. Going price for the new book is $49.95. Meaning gamers everywhere are upgrading to the new edition. This also means it will become the standard in gaming once again. Whew! A lot of us are pretty excited that the 4th edition is history now. Or is it? What about all those other books? Good question.
Currently there is some hush-hush on if there will be what was known to the gaming world business as Open Gaming Licensing (OGL). The wonderful part about OGL is how business booms when this happens. Much like what happen when Microsoft allowed anyone to use their software and it became the standard, same happens when Dungeon and Dragons does it. Everyone else makes compatible games and accessories. The market booms.
Another key point to note is, convention attendance is up at GENCON. The convention dedicated to gaming and once known as the con started by the creator of Dungeon and Dragons, still has a major foot hold in the gaming. Pre-con badges of $80 USD for 4 days racked up 30,000 sells. The math comes to $2.4 UDS million sales.
It says another thing too. Intelligent and creative people want to spend money on entertainment and that is just what they are doing right now. Spending money.
